Sick

Well, I made it 2 weeks.  Two glorious weeks before I got sick.  Mr. Logical asked me today if this year will be like the 2nd Grade Year of Doom (I was sick all but 2 weeks of that school year).  And honestly, after two years of teaching "the big kids," it may be.  But Mr. Logical is the best at playing nurse (must be because every woman in his family practically is a nurse), so I am enjoying being pampered with chicken soup and ginger ale, a new thermometer, and forgiveness for whining.

Hello blog!

Wow, it's been a whirlwind past few weeks.  School started, and I am knee deep in dissertation writing.    I have an awesome class this year, but there is so much to do at the beginning of the year.  But my sister was pushing me to get back to my blog, and here I am.  Here is what Spock has been up to:

Health Class

I just finished taking a health class for work, how to teach "family life." After the first night, I told Mr. Logical that I thought I was making a friend.  And now the class is over and I totally made a new friend!  We cemented our friendship by inviting each other to our respective birthday parties that happen to be on the same night. (which is kind of a bummer, but made for a funny story).  I am pretty excited, it is really hard to make new friends now that I'm "out" of college.

Overwhelmed

This week I am totally overwhelmed with things I have to do for work.  I have something to do for work after work every night this week, meaning my time is not my own until 8:30 or 9:00 each night.  This is really difficult for me, because I need a lot of downtime in order to recoup after being on all day.

I am trying to come up with some ways that I could effectively get some downtime in between the time I get home from these late meetings and the time I go to bed.  I think my herbal tea stash is going to see some use this week!

Almost Vacation

This week I am at outdoor school with my 6th graders.  So far we are having a great time, but man is it tiring to be with kids 24 hours a day!  The fresh air and laughter is doing us all good though.  Mr. Logical has orders to make me a chocolate bourbon milkshake Friday night!

It's just an ordinary day

So I really hate waiting.  Really really hate it.  I am horrible at it.  And right now I am waiting for a lot of things.  An email, info on whether or not I get the apartment, whether or not I'll be staying at my school next year.  I'm getting a little frustrated by the last two.  It's been a week and a half on the apartment, I really should know by now.  The school thing is totally annoying, because I am good at my job and people who aren't will get to stay and I'll have to leave.

I am also checking my email 50,000 times a day.  This is not good.  It is not helping.  I'm developing a complex from things my mom tells me she thinks about me, which is also not good.

In the meantime, two black cats are curled up on my bed, I have no cavities, and after tomorrow, 3 weeks will be half over.

Pancakes & Good Times

This morning while getting ready for class, one of my students walks in and hands me a plastic shopping bag. "What's this, Erica?," I ask. "Pancakes. From my mom." A few weeks ago, Erica's mom made all the pancakes for our Canada celebration, so today when she made pancakes for Erica's breakfast, she sent me a little take out container of pancakes, some butter and a baggie of syrup. Is that not the sweetest thing ever? Totally made my whole day. That and a student who moved to Tennessee came back to visit us and it was so good to see him. We miss him a lot. So it was a good day, and tonight we are going to Borders for the Twilight release.
