Little Knitting

Today I was working on a little knitting, finishing up some little ornaments I started in July.  I'm trying to decide if I want to leave them as little ornaments, or knit up a few more to make a garland.  The biggest problem I have is that the leftover sock yarn I have is in rather blah colors: gray, olive drab, maroon and orange (I've made a lot of men's socks).  I need to pull them out and see what they look like.  I do really like the ones I've made though.

Sick

Well, I made it 2 weeks.  Two glorious weeks before I got sick.  Mr. Logical asked me today if this year will be like the 2nd Grade Year of Doom (I was sick all but 2 weeks of that school year).  And honestly, after two years of teaching "the big kids," it may be.  But Mr. Logical is the best at playing nurse (must be because every woman in his family practically is a nurse), so I am enjoying being pampered with chicken soup and ginger ale, a new thermometer, and forgiveness for whining.

Hello blog!

Wow, it's been a whirlwind past few weeks.  School started, and I am knee deep in dissertation writing.    I have an awesome class this year, but there is so much to do at the beginning of the year.  But my sister was pushing me to get back to my blog, and here I am.  Here is what Spock has been up to:

Roman Shade

I finally finished the roman shade I was making for the front door.  Don't ask me about the one for the door to the backyard, haven't started.

I used this tutorial from ReadyMade.  It wasn't too complicated, and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.

Box of Sunshine Pt. 2

I finally finished my Box of Sunshine that I am sending to my friend going through chemotherapy.  In addition to what I told you about last time I added: Trident gum, yarn, Lemon Lift Tea, a crossword puzzle book, Jelly Belly jelly beans in appropriate colors, a Skye Bar, Mallow Cups, Lemon Heads, and a yellow bubblegum cigar.  I wrapped it all up in yellow tissue paper and wrapped the box in yellow wrapping paper before sending it out.

Vegetarian Dinner

I made a vegetarian dinner tonight!  We are definitely meat eaters, so this was an exciting day.  I made kale stuffed portabella mushrooms and roasted broccoli.

Maybe because I'm a kale newbie, but I left the stems on and they were too crunchy.  Next time I think I will take the stems off.  And the broccoli was a little too lemony, due to the amount of broccoli I used.  But overall, a pretty good first try.

Lovely Lentils

When we first started dating, Mr. Logical got himself a pressure cooker because he "wanted to eat more lentils."  Well, for the first six months he had that pressure cooker, no lentils were featured in our meals, so for Christmas I got him a bag of lentils.  The next Christmas, he got 12 pounds of lentils, and since then, lentils have been in regular rotation in our meals. They are a great source of protein, and easy to cook up.  We have them in tacos, salad, in soup, and with rice.

This weekend I made up a big southwestern lentil salad for our lunches.  I reduced the oil by half, and left out the cilantro.
