Table for 1

Today, I ate lunch.  In a restaurant.  By myself.  I know, I know, this doesn't seem like that big of a deal, but for me, this is huge.  A few years ago, I never would have been able to do a lot of the things I did today.  Like, sit on a bench alone, or eat in a restaurant alone, or go to the pool alone.  I was too scared.  But today, I did it.  And it was great.

I'm not sure what changed in me to make me not scared to do these things alone.  Maybe it was turning 30?  I'm glad I can do them though!

Skynet?

Just got back from outdoor school with my 6th graders.  Had my bourbon chocolate milkshake.  And Mr. Logical just informed my that our Nest thermostat has learned that we get up later on Sundays than we do on Saturdays.  My fear of a Terminator type apocalypse is getting stronger.

Nest

Mr. Logical just got us a new thermostat.   It is pretty smart, both looking and intelligence-wise.  It learns the cycles of the household and creates a schedule for running the heating and air-conditioning.  There is also a phone app, which allows you to manipulate the thermostat while you are away.  Mr. Logical had been eagerly awaiting its arrival, and now he is in love.

Last night while returning from dinner, I turned the thermostat up while sitting in a car that was doing 65 mph on the highway.  It was really cool, until I realized this is the first step to electronics becoming self-aware, a la Terminator.

When we got back from dinner, we started watching season 1 of The Walking Dead.  Got me thinking that while some people actually think that a zombie apocalypse is possible, I am leaning towards a Skynet apocalypse.   Luckily, no zombie or machine rising dreams last night.
